Words of Wisdom Wednesday

Here are some wonderful quotes from George Eliot (English Victorian Novelist. Pseudonym of Mary Ann Evans, 1819-1880)

“Gossip is a sort of smoke that comes from the dirty tobacco-pipes of those who diffuse it: it proves nothing but the bad taste of the smoker.”

“ Oh, the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person, having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all out, just as they are, chaff and grain together, certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and with a breath of kindness blow the rest away."

“ What greater thing is there for two human souls than to feel that they are joined ... to strengthen each other ... to be at one with each other in silent unspeakable memories.”

“The strongest principle of growth lies in the human choice.”

And some quotes from the witty Will Rogers (American entertainer, famous for his pithy and homespun humour, 1879-1935)

“Don't let yesterday use up too much of today.”

“If you want to be successful, it's just this simple. Know what you are doing. Love what you are doing. And believe in what you are doing.”

“People who fly into a rage always make a bad landing”

“Live that you wouldn't be ashamed to sell the family parrot to the town gossip.”

“The worst thing that happens to you may be the best thing for you if you don't let it get the best of you.”

“People's minds are changed through observation and not through argument”

“Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier 'n puttin' it back in”

and finally:

“If Stupidity got us into this mess, then why can't it get us out?”
